In 1986, Strong Area Health Center opened its doors in Franklin County. For many of the staff, the area holds a rich family history, strongly connecting them to the surrounding communities. In 2011, 1,971 patients visited the medical practice. In 2001, a determined community board fulfilled their vision, facilitating the center's transition into a modern and better equipped facility. The official towns served by the health center are Avon, New Vineyard, Phillips, and Strong. However patients from Farmington and beyond utilize the health center as well.

In January 2003, further expansion was completed and our state-of-the-art dental center enabled Strong to become the first HealthReach facility to offer oral health care. A coalition of local residents and service providers worked with HealthReach for several years to plan the program and seek funding for this important endeavor. In 2011, 1,066 patients obtained dental care at our center.

Situated between the Western Maine towns of Farmington and Rangeley, the town of Strong and its neighboring communities are rural and heavily forested. The local economy relies on natural resource-based businesses and industries. In addition, travelers come to Western Maine to enjoy year-round recreational opportunities, including visiting Smalls Falls, a spectacular set of waterfalls located just minutes from Strong. Snow-capped mountains, vivid fall foliage, and moose-spotting opportunities attract the young and old alike.
